metropolitan irony is an entry in the Miku Expo contest

STORY

There is this concept called the "dystopia in our midst" that talks about the gradual growth of a dystopian future in our own society.
Today, people are encouraged to "be in". This is exemplified in the social gatherings and networks we are taking part of today, and the "trending" culture of these things.
All of these are often marketed under the banner of "being yourself". Being yourself by being others... ironic, isn't it?
This song is about a fictional city where everything is focused around being like others, in the guise of being yourself.
When people tell a person to be themself, and they actually try to become themself, why are they not appreciated?
It's not that they don't understand at all, but an illusion is surrounding them.
Do they belong? Have they even made a mark? And isn't it ironic that by being in one stands out?
These people are forced to look in the dark.

It's a metropolitan irony.

LYRICS

Verse 1:

I see the lights
A flash illuminates the night
An end to the long road
Have I finally found a place called home?

They have no name
Everyone is the exact same
Deciphering the code
To be both equal and yet one’s own

Verse 2:

While the city’s
A kaleidoscope of blooming lights
Connecting some miles of crowded sights

I’m a lost soul
Looking for love, reaching for it above
What can I do?

Prechorus 1:

I had once thought somehow
It would be fine by now
But there’s the feeling that I’ll always be alone

Though you can reach them all
On their own social walls
Like a small quark I’m making circles in the dark

Initial Chorus:

It’s not that I don’t understand at all
It’s the illusion that’s surrounding me that confuses me

Do I belong? Have I even made a mark?
Though the whole city is shining so bright, I’m looking in the dark

Verse 3:

Some days have passed
Who’s the puppeteer of the mass?
Often it’s this I ask
Yet inquiries cannot puncture their masks

“I’m out of place!”
That cry was covered by the bass
I am quite left behind
What makes you glue together? I’m blind

Verse 4:

While the city’s
A network of dynamic people
A hub for everything dubbed meaningful

I’m still searching
For somebody who I can call for me
In the vast sea

Prechorus 2:

It’s now I realized
It’s here where the key lies
I’ve been creating the confusion in disguise

The thread that binds us all
Is not what makes your soul
Rather, it’s the singularity that we mold

Final Chorus:

It’s such a shame when all that I’ve ever known
Is a delusion still surrounding me that proved to be wrong
I let society make my life unfold
As for what happens to identity, that story’s untold

It’s not that I don’t understand at all
It’s the illusion that’s surrounding me that confuses me
Even at the top, you’ll barely leave a mark
In this metropolitan irony, the “light” forced me to dark
